Anthony Joshua's camp confirmed the deaths of two of his close friends, Sina Ghami and Kevin Lateef Ayodele, in a car crash in Nigeria on Monday. The accident occurred around 11 am on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway. Joshua sustained minor injuries and was hospitalized.
The Ogun state police commissioner, Lanre Ogunlowo, reported that Joshua's car collided with a stationary vehicle. Joshua's driver was also injured in the crash.
Joshua issued a statement expressing his grief. His spokesperson confirmed the deaths as a result of the road traffic accident in Lagos.
Joshua, a British former world heavyweight boxing champion, was in Nigeria. The purpose of his visit is not yet clear.
Further details regarding the accident are under investigation. Funeral arrangements for Ghami and Ayodele are pending.
