Bottled water sold at Waitrose is being recalled due to the possible presence of glass fragments, the Food Standards Agency (FSA) warned. The recall affects the 750ml No1 Royal Deeside Mineral Water and its sparkling counterpart.
The FSA stated that the presence of glass fragments upon opening the bottles "may cause injury and makes it unsafe to drink." Waitrose issued an apology and stated that it was recalling "some" bottles as a precaution. Customers are being asked to refrain from consuming the water and to return the bottles to Waitrose for a full refund, or to contact the company directly.
According to the FSA's recall notice, "If you have bought any of the above products do not drink it." The supermarket is also posting notices in its stores to inform customers about the recall.
Royal Deeside water is sourced from natural springs in the Cairngorms National Park in Scotland. The company produces special batches for Waitrose, which are the ones affected by the recall. Each bottle retails for approximately 1.60 pounds at Waitrose stores.
The exact number of bottles sold and the proportion affected by the potential contamination remain unclear.
