A Disney World cast member is recovering after heroically stopping a runaway prop boulder from potentially hitting audience members. The incident occurred Tuesday at the Indiana Jones Epic Stunt Spectacular! at the Florida theme park. A 400-pound (180kg) fake boulder broke free during a live performance.
Video shows the boulder careening off course toward the crowd. A quick-thinking staff member jumped in front of it, preventing it from reaching the audience. The cast member was knocked to the ground.
Disney confirmed the incident and stated they are supporting the injured employee. The company emphasized that safety is a priority. The boulder scene will be modified pending a safety review.
The Indiana Jones Epic Stunt Spectacular! recreates iconic scenes from the film "Raiders of the Lost Ark." The runaway boulder mimics the famous moment when Harrison Ford's Indiana Jones outruns the giant rock. The show is a long-standing fan favorite, drawing large crowds daily.
Disney's safety team is currently investigating the cause of the incident. Modifications to the boulder scene are expected before the show resumes its regular schedule.
