Anthony Joshua was discharged from a Nigerian hospital Wednesday after a car crash. The accident, which occurred Monday on an Ogun State expressway near Lagos, claimed the lives of two of his close friends. Joshua, 36, was a passenger in a Lexus SUV that collided with a stationary truck.
The deceased were identified as Sina Ghami and Latif "Latz" Ayodele, both integral members of Joshua's team. Following his discharge, Joshua visited the funeral home where their bodies were being prepared for repatriation, according to a joint statement from Ogun and Lagos states. Medical professionals deemed Joshua fit to recover at home.
Eddie Hearn, Joshua's promoter, expressed his condolences on social media, acknowledging the significant loss. The accident has left Joshua "heavy hearted," officials stated.
Joshua, a former world heavyweight champion, has maintained close ties to Nigeria. He turned professional after winning gold at the 2012 Olympics.
