Eurostar Services Return to Normal After Channel Tunnel Disruption
Eurostar and Le Shuttle services between the UK and France resumed Wednesday morning after a day of major travel disruption through the Channel Tunnel. Thousands of passengers experienced hours of delays Tuesday after Eurostar cancelled most of its London to Europe services due to an overhead power supply problem and a failed Le Shuttle train that blocked all routes, according to BBC News reports.
Repair work was conducted overnight, allowing rail services to resume in both directions. However, Eurostar cautioned passengers to check for potential knock-on delays and last-minute cancellations.
The disruptions were caused by two separate incidents: an overhead power supply problem and a Le Shuttle train that failed and blocked all routes through the tunnel. The combined effect of these incidents led to widespread cancellations and significant delays for travelers.
Eurostar is offering compensation to passengers affected by the disruption. To mitigate the impact, Eurostar added an extra London to Paris service. While Le Shuttle services are mostly operating normally, delays are still being reported in Calais.
The BBC reported that most of Eurostar's Wednesday morning services in and out of London St Pancras were running. Passengers are advised to check the Eurostar website for the latest updates before traveling.
