US Significantly Reduces Proposed Tariffs on Italian Pasta Imports
Washington, D.C. – The United States has drastically reduced proposed tariffs on Italian pasta imports that were initially threatened by the Trump administration against 13 producers. The move averts what could have been a significant increase in prices for American consumers, with tariffs potentially exceeding the value of the pasta itself.
The Italian foreign ministry announced Thursday that the proposed tariff rate had been significantly cut back. The US issued its own statement, explaining that the 13 Italian firms had addressed many of the concerns that prompted the initial tariff threat. The US had previously accused these companies of selling their products at unfairly low prices and threatened tariffs of almost 92.
Tariffs are taxes paid by consumers who import a product.
