Anthony Joshua's driver, Adeniyi Mobolaji Kayode, 46, was charged in a Nigerian court on Friday with causing death by dangerous driving following a car crash that killed two members of the former heavyweight champion's team. The crash, which occurred on Monday in Ogun state near Lagos, resulted in the deaths of Joshua's personal trainer, Latif Ayodele, and strength coach, Sina Ghami.
According to police sources speaking with the BBC, Kayode faces charges related to the fatal incident. Multiple news sources, including The Guardian, reported that the charges stem from allegations that Kayode was speeding and lost control of the vehicle after a tire burst, leading to a collision with a stationary truck.
Joshua was a passenger in the vehicle at the time of the crash and sustained minor injuries, as did Kayode. Ayodele and Ghami, however, succumbed to their injuries at the scene.
The BBC reported that the incident took place on a highway in Ogun state. Kayode was arraigned at the Sagamu Magistrates' Court on Friday. While he has been granted bail, he remains in custody until the bail conditions are met, according to reports. Further details regarding the specific conditions of his bail were not immediately available. The investigation into the crash is ongoing.
