President Donald Trump is considering a major construction project to overhaul the Courses at Andrews, a military golf course located inside Joint Base Andrews in Maryland. The course, known as "the president's golf course," has been frequented by numerous presidents, including Gerald Ford, Ronald Reagan, George H.W. Bush, Bill Clinton, George W. Bush, Joe Biden, and Barack Obama, who played there roughly 110 times during his eight years in office.
Trump, who has typically favored golfing at courses owned by his family, has enlisted golf champion Jack Nicklaus as the architect for the potential renovation. Michael Thomas, the former general manager of the course, noted the importance of presidents having opportunities for recreation, stating, "Its amazing that an individual has time to take a couple hours away from the world crises. And theyre people like everybody else."
The Courses at Andrews, situated approximately 15 miles (24 kilometers) from the White House, have served as a secure and convenient getaway for presidents seeking respite from the demands of their office. Obama, in particular, utilized the course extensively, while Trump has primarily spent his golfing time at his own properties, dedicating about one in every four days of his second term to them.
The potential overhaul of the Courses at Andrews would add to a list of construction projects undertaken by Trump during his time in office, including renovations to the White House Rose Garden and the addition of a ballroom. The specific details and timeline for the proposed golf course project remain unclear.
