All Injured Identified in Swiss Ski Resort Fire; Investigation Focuses on Cause
Swiss officials have identified all 116 individuals injured in the New Year's Eve bar fire at the Crans-Montana ski resort that killed 40 people, police confirmed Monday. The victims' ages ranged from 14 to 39 years old.
The injured included at least 12 nationalities, highlighting the multinational impact of the tragedy, according to officials. Eighty-three people remained hospitalized, some in critical condition, police said.
The process of identifying the injured was complicated by the severity of burns suffered by many, police said. While the deceased had been previously identified, authorities worked to establish the identities of all those injured.
Investigators are focusing on the role of acoustic foam and sparklers as potential catalysts for the blaze, raising questions about regulatory compliance and safety protocols at the Le Constellation bar, managed by a French couple. The investigation is scrutinizing safety protocols in public venues.
