A gas explosion killed a newly married couple in Islamabad, Pakistan, on Sunday. The blast occurred at 7:00 AM local time, one day after their wedding. Six other people, including wedding guests and family, also died.
The explosion happened at a house where the couple and guests were staying. Gas leakage caused the blast, collapsing the roof and damaging walls. Rescue workers extracted injured people from the rubble. Over a dozen people sustained injuries. Three neighboring houses were also damaged.
Yusuf Raza Gilani, chairman of Pakistan's Senate, expressed grief over the incident. Hanif Masih, the groom's father, confirmed his son's wedding was the previous day.
Forensic teams are investigating the cause of the gas leak. Authorities are providing aid to the injured and displaced residents. The investigation is ongoing.
