Google Employee Claims Retaliation After Reporting Sexual Harassment
A senior Google employee, Victoria Woodall, has claimed she was made redundant after reporting a manager for sexual harassment, according to an employment tribunal. Woodall alleges she was subjected to a campaign of retaliation by the company after whistleblowing on the manager, who was later dismissed.
The case centers around a Google UK manager who, according to documents seen by the BBC in court, told clients stories about his swinger lifestyle and showed a nude photograph of his wife. Google's internal investigation also found that the manager had touched two female colleagues without their consent, behavior deemed as sexual harassment.
Woodall claims that after reporting the manager's behavior, she faced retaliation from Google, ultimately leading to her redundancy. The tech giant, however, denies retaliating against Woodall. The employment tribunal is currently hearing evidence to determine the validity of Woodall's claims. The BBC has been covering the proceedings through its technology and business sections. The tribunal is expected to continue hearing evidence in the coming days.
