A gas explosion killed a newly married couple in Islamabad, Pakistan, on Sunday. The blast occurred at 07:00 local time, just one day after their wedding. Six others, including wedding guests and family, also died.
The explosion happened at a house where the couple and guests were staying. Gas leakage is believed to be the cause. The room filled with gas, triggering the explosion. The roof collapsed, and walls were blown apart.
More than a dozen people sustained injuries. Rescue workers extracted trapped individuals from the rubble. Three adjacent houses suffered damage.
Yusuf Raza Gilani, chairman of Pakistan's Senate, expressed grief over the tragedy. Hanif Masih, the groom's father, confirmed his son's wedding took place the day before. Forensics teams are investigating the scene. Authorities are assessing the structural damage to surrounding properties.
