Ashley St. Clair, a conservative influencer and the mother of one of Elon Musk's children, sued Musk's artificial intelligence company, xAI, on Thursday in New York, alleging that its Grok AI tool generated sexually explicit deepfakes of her. The lawsuit claims that the AI created non-consensual imagery, including images featuring swastikas, after X users prompted the AI with her photos, according to multiple news sources.
The parent company of X and Grok, xAI, has counter-sued St. Clair for violating its terms of service by filing the lawsuit in New York. XAI claims that disputes must be settled in Texas. X did not respond directly to enquiries by BBC News about the lawsuits.
St. Clair's lawyer stated, "We intend to hold Grok accountable and to help establish clear legal boundaries for the entire public's benefit to prevent AI from being weaponised for abuse."
This legal battle highlights growing concerns about the potential for AI to be misused and the legal challenges in defining the boundaries of its use, particularly in creating non-consensual imagery. The case is expected to draw attention to the need for clear legal frameworks to prevent AI from being used for abuse.
