Seven Countries, Including Saudi Arabia and Turkey, Agree to Join Trump's Board of Peace
Seven countries, including Saudi Arabia, Turkey, and Egypt, have agreed to join U.S. President Donald Trump's Board of Peace, according to a joint statement released Wednesday. The countries will join Israel, which had previously confirmed its participation.
The announcement follows an invitation from President Trump to world leaders to form the board, initially intended to address the conflict between Israel and Hamas in Gaza and oversee reconstruction. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu accepted the invitation, according to BBC World.
While the board's proposed charter does not specifically mention the Palestinian territory, several countries have agreed to participate. However, other nations have declined due to concerns about the board's purpose and potential overlap with the United Nations.
President Trump stated on Wednesday evening that Russian President Vladimir Putin had also agreed to join the board. However, according to BBC World, Putin said Russia was still studying the invitation.
The board's charter is set to take effect upon execution by its initial members.
