Blue Origin Announces TeraWave, a Satellite Internet Rival to Starlink
Blue Origin, the rocket company founded by Amazon's Jeff Bezos, announced plans to launch over 5,400 satellites to create a new communications network called TeraWave. The network aims to provide continuous, high-speed internet access around the world, directly competing with Elon Musk's Starlink.
According to Blue Origin, TeraWave will focus on providing data center services to businesses and governments, with the ability to move large amounts of data more quickly than rival services. Multiple news sources reported that the company plans to launch the satellites by the end of 2027.
While TeraWave boasts potentially faster speeds, it will have fewer satellites in orbit than Starlink, which currently dominates the satellite internet market. Starlink, part of Musk's SpaceX, also offers internet and phone services to individual customers. Amazon's Project Kuiper will also compete in the satellite internet arena, focusing on individual customers.
