Defense technology company Anduril announced Thursday its expansion into Long Beach, California, with a new campus slated to support approximately 5,500 jobs. The 1.18 million-square-foot facility will encompass six buildings, integrating office space with industrial areas dedicated to research and development, according to the company.
Founder Palmer Luckey told TechCrunch that the Long Beach location, his hometown, was strategically chosen due to its status as a major aerospace hub. The new jobs created will not be transfers from other Anduril operations, Luckey confirmed. The campus is expected to be operational by mid-2027.
The Long Beach facility will mirror the hiring profile of Anduril's Costa Mesa headquarters, focusing on manufacturing workers, technicians, assembly workers, and engineers across various disciplines, including electrical, mechanical, and aerodynamics. The company also anticipates a significant need for logistics personnel to manage the global distribution of products manufactured at the site, Luckey stated.
Anduril's expansion signifies a growing trend of defense technology companies establishing a stronger presence in Southern California. The region's established aerospace industry and skilled workforce make it an attractive location for companies involved in advanced manufacturing and defense-related research. Anduril also operates a large manufacturing facility in Ohio.
The Long Beach campus will support Anduril's development and production of advanced defense technologies, including autonomous systems, artificial intelligence-powered surveillance, and counter-drone solutions. The company aims to provide cutting-edge tools to military and law enforcement agencies.
