At least 15 people died after a ferry sank in the southern Philippines overnight, according to coast guard officials. The MV Trisha Kerstin 3, carrying 332 passengers and 27 crew members, was en route to Jolo island in Sulu province from Zamboanga when it encountered technical problems and sank near Baluk-Baluk Island in Basilan province just after midnight local time, Sky News reported.
Authorities rescued at least 316 people, but 28 remained missing, according to coast guard officials. The Philippine Coast Guard released an image of the sunken vessel.
In other news, the remains of the last Israeli hostage in Gaza were found, the Israel Defence Forces (IDF) said in a statement Monday. The body of police officer Ran Gvili, 24, a sergeant first class, was retrieved, and his family was informed, Sky News reported. Identification was confirmed by the National Institute of Forensic Medicine, in cooperation with the Israeli police and the military rabbinate, the IDF said. "I promised we would bring everyone home and we have brought everyone home," Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said, calling it "an incredible achievement," according to Sky News.
Tensions remained high between the United States and Iran, with Iran unveiling a mural in Tehran warning the U.S. against military strikes.
