The British Academy of Film and Television Arts (BAFTA) announced its 2026 film award nominations on Monday, January 27, revealing a mix of expected contenders and surprising inclusions, according to Variety. At the same time, the film "How to Divorce During the War" premiered at Sundance, and Netflix prepared to release the fourth season of "Bridgerton."
"One Battle After Another," "Sinners," "Hamnet," and "Marty Supreme" dominated the BAFTA nominations, but some unexpected names made the cut in the performance categories, Variety reported. Also on January 27, "How to Divorce During the War" debuted its trailer in conjunction with its world premiere at the Sundance Film Festival, Variety reported. The film, written and directed by Andrius Blazevicius, is set in Vilnius, Lithuania. New Europe Film Sales is handling world sales for the film, according to Variety.
Netflix's "Bridgerton" is set to return for its fourth season, with the first half of episodes dropping January 29 and the second half on February 26, according to Time. The new season will focus on Benedict, adapting a novel from Julia Quinn's "Bridgerton" series, Time reported. Season 4 will likely address narratives from Season 3, so viewers may want to refresh their memories of the previous season, according to Time.
In other film news, R.S. Prasanna, director of "Sitaare Zameen Par," is developing a biopic on Indian mathematician Srinivasa Ramanujan, Variety reported. Prasanna described the project as "a biopic on steroids," according to Variety.
