Anthropic Seeks $20 Billion in Funding Amid AI Boom
Anthropic, the AI company behind Claude and Claude Code, is reportedly seeking $20 billion in a new funding round, doubling its initial target of $10 billion due to significant investor interest, according to the Financial Times (FT). The funding round, expected to close soon, would value the company at $350 billion, sources told the FT.
The decision to increase the funding target was driven by "booming investor interest," TechCrunch reported. Backers in this round are expected to include Sequoia Capital, which also invests in Anthropic's rival OpenAI, Singapore's sovereign wealth fund, and investment management firm Coatue, per the FT.
Anthropic's increased funding efforts come after a $1.3 billion raise in September, making it one of the industry's largest. Late last year, reports surfaced that Anthropic had hired lawyers in preparation for a potential IPO sometime this year, TechCrunch noted.
Anthropic's pursuit of substantial funding underscores the ongoing surge of investment in the artificial intelligence sector. Other companies, such as Meta, are also making significant investments related to AI. Meta, for example, spent $6.4 million on an advertising campaign in late 2025 to promote the construction of new data centers across the country, according to The Verge.
The AI landscape is rapidly evolving, with new tools and technologies emerging. Moltbot, an open-source AI agent that can manage reminders and log health data, has gained popularity, The Verge reported.
