'Drishyam 3' Ignites Global Film Deals Amidst Hollywood Developments
Hollywood buzzed with activity this week, marked by international film deals, Sundance acquisitions, and tech advancements in photo editing, according to multiple reports. The Malayalam-language film "Drishyam 3" emerged as a central figure in a four-film global distribution agreement between India's Panorama Studios and Phars Film, Variety reported on January 27, 2026. Ahmad Golchin's Phars Film will handle international theatrical releases for the slate, anchored by the highly anticipated "Drishyam 3."
Meanwhile, Olivia Wilde's "The Invite" sparked a bidding war following its Sundance Film Festival premiere, ultimately selling to A24 for over $12 million, according to Variety. A24 and Focus Features engaged in a "tense fight" for the rights to the relationship comedy after other potential buyers, including Neon, Netflix, Apple, Searchlight, and Black Bear, withdrew from negotiations.
In other film news, John Turturro's performance in Noah Segan's "The Only Living Pickpocket in New York" garnered critical acclaim. Tomris Laffly of Variety described the film as an "elegantly tender character study" elevated by a supporting cast including Steve Buscemi and Tatiana Maslany, and a "groovy 70s-style score."
Outside of film, Google Photos rolled out its AI-powered "Help me Edit" feature to users in India, Australia, and Japan, TechCrunch reported. The feature, which utilizes the Nano Banana image model, enables users to make specific adjustments, such as removing objects or enhancing focus, through simple text commands within the app on Android devices with sufficient RAM. This expansion aims to increase accessibility to advanced editing tools.
Adding to the week's announcements, HBO and A24 are set to release "Neighbors," a six-episode reality series premiering February 13th, according to multiple news sources. Directed by Harrison Fishman and Dylan Redford, and produced by Marty Supreme, the late-night show is inspired by viral videos of neighborly disputes and will explore outlandish conflicts across America, focusing on issues like property lines and pet ownership.
