A plane crash in western India killed five people Wednesday, including Ajit Pawar, the deputy chief minister of Maharashtra state, according to Sky News. The private plane was traveling from Mumbai to Pawar's home city, Baramati, when it crashed in an open field and burst into flames, Sky News reported. There were no survivors.
Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi paid tribute to Pawar after the crash, Sky News noted. The cause of the crash was not immediately known, but authorities in India are investigating, according to Al Jazeera. The aircraft slammed into a field approximately 159 miles (254 kilometers) from Mumbai, Sky News reported.
The incident occurred on the same day that Hungarian prosecutors charged Budapest Mayor Gergely Karácsony with violating assembly laws for organizing and leading a Pride march in June 2025 despite a police prohibition order, Euronews reported. The Budapest V and XIII District Prosecutor's Office filed charges against Karácsony for breaching the law on freedom of association and assembly, proposing a fine, according to Euronews. The case has been referred to the Pest Central District Court.
Also on Wednesday, Sky News reported that Donald Trump distanced himself from controversial remarks made by senior members of his administration regarding Alex Pretti, a 37-year-old ICU nurse who was shot dead by ICE agents in Minneapolis over the weekend. Trump adviser Stephen Miller had called Pretti a "would-be assassin," but Trump disagreed, according to Sky News. The shooting occurred just weeks after another ICE officer killed 37-year-old Renee Good in the same city, Sky News reported.
Meanwhile, Russian forces launched overnight drone attacks on Ukraine, hitting residential areas in the Kyiv region and Odesa, Euronews reported. More than 50 Russian drones struck Odesa, killing three people and wounding more than 30, according to Euronews. Images released by Ukraine's emergency services showed fires blazing over the rubble of a monastery in Odesa after the drone barrage. Regional governor Oleg Kiper said a 39-week pregnant woman and two girls were among the wounded, Euronews reported. The Black Sea city is key for Ukrainian exports.
