A Russian man was found guilty of assault in the United Kingdom after Barron Trump, son of Donald Trump, reported the incident to police. Matvei Rumiantsev, 22, was convicted of assault occasioning actual bodily harm and perverting the course of justice at Snaresbrook Crown Court on Wednesday, according to BBC World.
The incident occurred in London in January 2025. Barron Trump, 19, contacted UK police from the United States after witnessing a video call where his friend was allegedly being attacked by Rumiantsev, the BBC reported. Prosecutors stated that Rumiantsev, who resided in Canary Wharf, east London, was motivated by jealousy over the woman's friendship with Trump.
Sky News reported that Donald Trump distanced himself from controversial remarks made by senior members of his administration regarding the death of Alex Pretti, a 37-year-old ICU nurse who was shot dead by ICE agents in Minneapolis over the weekend. Stephen Miller, a Trump advisor, had described Pretti as a "would-be assassin," but Trump disagreed. The shooting occurred just weeks after another ICE officer killed 37-year-old Renee Good in the same city, Sky News added.
In other news, Valerie Bertinelli discussed her divorces during an appearance on "The Drew Barrymore Show," Fox News reported. Bertinelli, 65, told Barrymore that her divorces were "completely different." The discussion arose during a segment about divorced women turning their wedding rings into celebratory jewelry. A 5,500-year-old Treponema pallidum genome was discovered in an individual, according to Elizabeth Nelson, an anthropologist at Southern Methodist University. This discovery suggests that the bacteria lineage, which includes the one that causes syphilis, existed much earlier than previously thought. Previously, the siege of Naples in 1495, when King Charles VIII of France occupied the city, was considered the first recorded instance of syphilis in Europe, leading to a massive pandemic that caused up to 5 million deaths, Ars Technica noted.
