Turkey Detains Six Suspected of Spying for Iran Amid Rising Regional Tensions
Turkish authorities arrested six individuals on Wednesday on suspicion of spying for Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), according to domestic media reports. The arrests occurred amidst heightened regional tensions fueled by fears of a potential U.S. military strike on Iran, as reported by Euronews.
Security forces conducted simultaneous raids in five provinces, including Istanbul and Ankara, following a joint investigation by the counter-terror department and Turkey's intelligence agency, state-run TRT television reported. The suspects, including an Iranian citizen, allegedly monitored military facilities and other strategic sites across the country, Euronews stated.
The arrests come after U.S. President Donald Trump asserted that the U.S. is prepared to attack Iran with "speed and violence" if Tehran does not submit to U.S. demands, Al Jazeera reported on January 28, 2026.
