Trump Threatens Iran with 'Massive Armada' Amidst NRA Clash Over Gun Rights
President Donald Trump escalated tensions with Iran on Wednesday, declaring a "massive armada" of American forces was en route to the country, while simultaneously facing criticism from the National Rifle Association (NRA) over gun rights issues following a shooting in Minneapolis.
Trump announced the military deployment via Truth Social, stating it was intended to pressure Iran into negotiating a new deal limiting its nuclear program, according to Time. "Hopefully Iran will quickly Come to the Table and negotiate a fair and equitable deal - NO NUCLEAR WEAPONS - one that is good for all parties," Trump wrote. He warned of severe consequences if Iran refused, referencing previous U.S. strikes on Iranian nuclear facilities and suggesting any future attack would be "far worse," Time reported.
The NRA's criticism stemmed from Trump's remarks regarding Alex Pretti, a VA nurse killed by federal agents in Minneapolis. Pretti, described by police as a lawful gun owner with a permit to carry, was not seen holding a gun during his encounter with officers. Trump stated Pretti shouldn't have been carrying a gun, prompting the NRA to issue a statement defending the Second Amendment rights of law-abiding citizens. "The NRA unequivocally believes that all law-abiding citizens have a right to keep and bear arms anywhere they have a legal right to be," the organization said on Tuesday night, according to Time.
In other news, Rachel Keller has been cast as a lead in the upcoming CBS legal drama "Cupertino," alongside Mike Colter, Variety confirmed. The show, also starring Renee Elise Goldsberry and Ella Stiller, is described as a David vs. Goliath legal drama set in Silicon Valley.
Meanwhile, Brooke Nevils, the former NBC employee who accused Matt Lauer of rape in 2014, has detailed the alleged assault and her reasons for not contacting the police at the time. "I was in freaking Russia. Who would I call? Putin? The KGB? There was only NBC," Nevils stated, according to Variety.
