UK Government Launches Free AI Training Program; Meta Expects AI to Reshape Work
The UK government launched a series of free AI training courses aimed at equipping adults with the skills to use the technology in the workplace, while Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg predicted AI would "dramatically change the way we work" by 2026. The government's initiative, unveiled recently, intends to reach 10 million workers by 2030 and has been described as the most ambitious training scheme since the launch of the Open University in 1971, according to BBC Technology.
The online lessons will provide guidance on how to effectively prompt chatbots and utilize them for administrative tasks. Many of the courses are free, with others being subsidized.
However, the Institute for Public Policy Research (IPPR) cautioned that workers would need more than just basic chatbot prompting skills to adapt to the growing influence of AI, according to BBC Technology.
Meanwhile, Meta boss Mark Zuckerberg stated that AI tools are improving so rapidly that a single engineer can now accomplish the work that previously required an entire team. During a call with financial analysts on Wednesday to discuss the Facebook-owner's 2025 financial results, Zuckerberg anticipated significant changes in work practices due to AI by 2026, according to BBC Business. Zuckerberg's comments hinted at potential future layoffs at Meta, which has already undergone several rounds of job cuts in recent years to streamline operations.
