Windows 11 Reaches 1 Billion Users Faster Than Windows 10
Windows 11 has reached 1 billion users, achieving the milestone faster than Windows 10, according to Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella during the company's fiscal Q2 2026 earnings call on Wednesday. The operating system hit the mark during the recent holiday quarter, marking a significant achievement for Microsoft.
The news came as several tech giants released their latest earnings reports and outlined future strategies. Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg stated that the company will begin rolling out new AI models and products in the coming months, with a focus on AI-driven commerce. "Over the coming months, we’re going to start shipping our new models and products and I expect us to steadily push the frontier over the course of the new year," Zuckerberg said on an investor call Wednesday. He highlighted "new agentic shopping tools" that will allow users to "find just the right set of products from the businesses in our catalog."
Microsoft also revealed that its net income increased by $7.6 billion from its investment in OpenAI, which reportedly has a 20% revenue share agreement with Microsoft. The software giant has invested more than $13 billion in the AI lab, which is currently looking to raise additional funding at a valuation between $75 billion and $83 billion, according to Bloomberg. Microsoft and OpenAI renegotiated some of the terms of their deal in September when OpenAI restructured.
In other tech news, Sebastiaan de With, co-founder of Lux and known for his work on apps like Halide, Kino, and Orion, announced that he is joining Apple’s design team. "So excited to work with the very best team in the world on my favorite products," de With said in his post. De With is well-known for his deep dives on Apple's iPhone cameras.
Zuckerberg also indicated a shift in focus at Meta, with AI potentially taking precedence over the metaverse. "We started with text, and then moved to photos, then video," Zuckerberg stated, suggesting AI could be the next major media format.
