Trump Launches "Trump Accounts" for Newborns, Minneapolis Mayor Accused of Legal Violation
Washington D.C. - President Donald Trump unveiled a new initiative on Wednesday, Jan 28, 2026, called "Trump Accounts," designed to provide every newborn American child with a financial stake in the future. The announcement came during a U.S. Treasury event where Trump celebrated the program, which aims to jumpstart the American dream, according to a sign displayed at the event.
According to Trump, each account will be seeded with an initial contribution of $1,000, which is intended to grow over the child's lifetime. Parents and other contributors, such as relatives and employers, will be able to add up to $5,000 annually to the account. The President claimed that with modest contributions, the value of each account should reach at least $50,000 by the time the child turns 18. Trump also acknowledged the support of tech billionaires Michael and [Name Redacted] in the development of the program.
In other news, President Trump accused Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey of a "serious" legal violation after Frey stated that Minneapolis does not and will not enforce federal immigration laws. Trump made the accusation on Tuesday via Truth Social. "Could somebody in his inner sanctum please explain that this statement is a very serious violation of the Law, and that he is PLAYING WITH FIRE!" Trump wrote.
Frey's comments were made in a social media post the previous day, where he stated that he had made it clear to White House border czar Tom Homan that local officers would not carry out federal immigration enforcement.
