Windows 11 reached 1 billion users faster than its predecessor, Windows 10, according to Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella. The milestone was achieved during the recent holiday quarter, marking a significant adoption rate for the operating system.
Microsoft announced Windows 11 hit the 1 billion user mark during the company’s fiscal Q2 2026 earnings call. According to Nadella, the user base is "up over 45 percent year-over-year." This indicates a strong growth trajectory for the operating system since its release.
Meanwhile, in other tech news, enterprises are increasingly focused on managing cloud spending as public cloud expenditure is projected to rise 21.3% in 2026, according to Gartner. VentureBeat reported that up to 32% of enterprise cloud spending is wasted due to duplicated, non-functional, or outdated code, as well as inefficient processes, according to Flexera's latest State of the Cloud report. Adaptive6, a company that recently emerged from stealth, aims to address this issue by helping enterprises reduce cloud waste.
Airtable also announced its entry into the AI agent space with Superagent, a standalone research agent that deploys teams of specialized AI agents working in parallel to complete research tasks, VentureBeat reported. According to Airtable co-founder Howie Liu, Superagent's orchestrator maintains full visibility over the entire execution journey, creating "a coherent journey" where the orchestrator makes all decisions.
In other news, the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) released details about Mobile Fortify, a face recognition app used by federal immigration agents, Wired reported. The app, which is used to identify people in the field, including undocumented immigrants and US citizens, is currently in the deployment stage for both Customs and Border Protection (CBP) and Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE). CBP gained access to Mobile Fortify at the beginning of May last year, while ICE got access on May 20, 2025. The company behind the app was also revealed in DHS's 2025 AI Use Case Inventory.
