The agents were placed on leave on Saturday, following standard protocol, according to US officials speaking on Wednesday, Al Jazeera reported. Initial reports alleged Pretti brandished a gun during a scuffle, but a preliminary Department of Homeland Security (DHS) report sent to Congress indicated that two officers fired their weapons at Pretti. The DHS has not clarified when the agents were officially put on leave or the duration of their leave, BBC World noted. Lawmakers from both parties have called for the removal of the secretary of the DHS, BBC World reported.
In other news, a senior politician in India, Ajit Pawar, the deputy chief minister of Maharashtra state, died in a plane crash on Wednesday. Sky News reported that Pawar and four other people were traveling on a private plane from Mumbai to Baramati when it crashed in an open field approximately 159 miles (254km) from Mumbai. There were no survivors.
