Driver in Custody After Car Rams Into Chabad World Headquarters in Brooklyn
A driver was taken into custody Wednesday night after a vehicle repeatedly rammed into the Chabad-Lubavitch World Headquarters in Brooklyn, New York City, according to the New York Police Department (NYPD). The incident, which occurred around 8:45 p.m. at 770 Eastern Parkway in Crown Heights, is being investigated as a possible hate crime, officials said.
According to Police Commissioner Jessica Tisch, officers were already assigned to a detail at the location when they "heard a commotion in the building's main entrance." They witnessed a car strike the rear door, reverse, and then strike the door again. The incident was captured on video.
Motti Seligson, a spokesperson for Chabad Lubavitch, stated that there were no apparent injuries. The NYPD bomb squad inspected the vehicle and found no explosives.
Following the incident, the driver reportedly shouted to bystanders that "it slipped" and made a statement to police about attempting to park, according to Fox News.
The investigation is ongoing.
