'Demon Slayer' Boosts Japan's Box Office as Tesla Faces Revenue Decline
Japan's box office experienced a banner year in 2025, reaching a record JPY274.45 billion ($1.79 billion), a 32% increase year-on-year, largely driven by the success of "Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba – The Movie: Infinity Castle Part 1," according to Variety. Meanwhile, Tesla faced its first annual revenue decline, shifting its focus towards AI and robotics, BBC Business reported.
Tesla's financial results for 2025 revealed a challenging year, with the company's first-ever year-over-year revenue decline, Ars Technica noted. While total revenue only fell by 3%, a significant increase in expenses and a decrease in income from operations led to a substantial drop in net profit and a reduced profit margin compared to previous years. The decline was primarily due to a drop in automotive sales, despite growth in energy storage and services, according to Ars Technica. Tesla attributed the financial downturn to falling sales and lower regulatory credits.
In response to these challenges, Tesla is strategically shifting its focus to AI and robotics, discontinuing Model S and Model X production to manufacture humanoid robots and investing heavily in Elon Musk's AI venture, xAI, BBC Business reported. This shift comes amid increased capital expenditure and controversial political involvement by Musk, although Tesla shares saw a slight increase in extended trading, according to BBC Business.
The contrasting news landscape also includes advancements in health and technology. Age-reversal trials received FDA approval, and OpenAI launched Prism for scientific writing, Wired reported. However, a tragic private jet crash in Maine killed six, including chef Nick Mastrascusa, and Iranian medical professionals reported government crackdowns, according to Wired. Meta's Reality Labs also faced substantial financial losses despite Zuckerberg's continued metaverse optimism, according to multiple news sources.
