Plane Crashes in Colombia and India Claim Lives of Politicians
Two separate plane crashes in Colombia and India resulted in the deaths of multiple individuals, including prominent politicians, this week.
In Colombia, a small passenger plane crashed in the northern part of the country on Thursday, killing all 15 people on board, including Congressman Diogenes Quintero, 36, a member of the House of Representatives for Catatumbo, and Carlos Salcedo, who was running for Congress, according to Colombia's transportation ministry. The crash occurred in a mountainous rural area of Norte de Santander, near the Venezuelan border. Rescue crews located the crash site and "regrettably confirmed that there were no survivors," officials said.
Meanwhile, in India on Wednesday, a private plane crash claimed the lives of five people, including Ajit Pawar, the deputy chief minister of Maharashtra state. The plane was traveling from Mumbai to Pawar's home city, Baramati, when it crashed in an open field and burst into flames approximately 159 miles (254km) away. According to Sky News, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi paid tribute to the minister following the incident. The cause of the crash was not immediately known.
