Bridgerton Star Yerin Ha Receives Support Amidst TikTok Censorship Concerns and Murder Trial Developments
Actress Yerin Ha, the first Korean lead in the hit Netflix series Bridgerton, has garnered support from co-star Simone Ashley as she prepares to portray Sophie, a character whose core storyline remains faithful to the original novel. This news arrives amidst concerns about potential censorship on a new version of TikTok and developments in the Brendan Banfield double murder trial.
Ha's casting follows a similar race change previously experienced by Ashley, according to multiple news sources. While Bridgerton continues to captivate audiences with its formulaic yet enjoyable Regency romance arcs, as noted by Time, real-world drama unfolds elsewhere.
Brendan Banfield, on trial for the murders of his wife and Joe Ryan, denied plotting the killings with his former au pair, Juliana Peres Magalhães, despite admitting to an affair with her. According to multiple reports, the prosecution alleges that Banfield and Magalhães murdered Ryan and Banfield's wife, staging the scene to implicate Ryan. Magalhães herself has corroborated this theory. Banfield, however, maintains his innocence, denying any conspiracy in the deaths.
Meanwhile, a new version of TikTok has sparked concerns about censorship. Adam Clark Estes, a senior technology correspondent at Vox, reported that users have noticed unusual activity on the app, including difficulties posting videos and requests for precise location data. Some users have also reported seeing less content related to ICE or the Trump administration. "If the latter is the case, you weren't the only one," Estes wrote in Vox. The app was created after President Trump pushed for a US version of the popular social media platform.
In other news, the Library of Congress inducted 25 films into the National Film Registry, including Clueless and Inception, recognizing their cultural significance.
