Immigration Official Vows Continued Operations in Minneapolis Despite Controversy
Minneapolis, MN – Despite mounting public outcry over recent fatal shootings and allegations of unconstitutional practices, the Trump administration's immigration advisor, Tom Homan, vowed that federal immigration agents would continue making arrests in Minnesota. Homan, a former acting head of Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), was dispatched to Minnesota on Monday night for emergency meetings with local officials, according to Time.
The visit followed widespread criticism regarding two fatal shootings in Minneapolis involving federal immigration officials, as well as evidence of indiscriminate stops of U.S. citizens and allegations of unconstitutional search and seizure violations.
Speaking to reporters in Minneapolis on Thursday, Homan stated, "We are not going to surrender our mission at all, we're just going to do it smarter," according to Time. While he acknowledged that he had requested plans to withdraw some of the thousands of federal immigration officers in Minnesota, Homan emphasized that immigration enforcement would persist.
