FBI Seizes 2020 Ballots in Georgia as Trump Amplifies Conspiracy Theories
ATLANTA, GA – The FBI seized original 2020 Fulton County voting records on Wednesday while serving a search warrant at the county's Elections Hub and Operations Center, according to Fulton County officials. The FBI confirmed they were conducting court-authorized activity at the facility but declined to provide further information, ABC News reported.
In the hours following the seizure, President Donald Trump posted a series of discredited conspiracy theories about the 2020 presidential election, as well as claims regarding the 2016 election, ABC News reported.
The seizure and Trump's reaction come as the Honest Elections Project (HEP) is warning of potential vulnerabilities in the voting system ahead of the 2026 midterm elections, including the expansion of noncitizen voting and foreign influence, according to Fox News. HEP believes state legislatures have "one last opportunity" to pass "critical reforms" to close these loopholes before the midterms.
Meanwhile, the Trump administration's deployment of troops to multiple U.S. cities in 2025 has been estimated to have cost approximately $496 million through the end of December, according to estimates released this week by the Congressional Budget Office (CBO), CBS News reported. The Pentagon deployed 700 active-duty Marines and members of the National Guard to Los Angeles in June 2025 following protests over the administration's immigration raids. Since then, members of the National Guard have deployed to Washington, D.C.; Memphis, Tennessee; Portland, Oregon; Chicago, Illinois; and New Orleans, Louisiana. Keeping Guard forces deployed at the same levels as late December could cost about $93 million per month going forward, the CBO estimated. About 200 members of the Texas National Guard are on standby for potential domestic deployment.
