Trump Sues IRS and Treasury for $10 Billion Over Tax Leak as Allies Seek Deals with China
Former President Donald Trump filed a lawsuit against the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) and the Treasury Department on Thursday, seeking $10 billion in damages for the alleged leak of his tax information to news outlets between 2018 and 2020, according to the Associated Press. The suit, filed in a Florida federal court, includes Trump's sons, Eric Trump and Donald Trump Jr., and the Trump Organization as plaintiffs. The filing alleges that the leak of confidential tax records caused "reputational and financial harm, public embarrassment."
The lawsuit comes as some of the United States' allies are reportedly seeking to diversify their trade relationships, looking towards China and India amid concerns over tariffs and rhetoric from the Trump administration. According to NPR, these allies are aiming to boost trade with Asian superpowers.
