Former CNN Anchor Don Lemon Arrested Following Minnesota Church Protest
Former CNN anchor Don Lemon was arrested early Friday morning in Los Angeles in connection with a protest that disrupted a church service in St. Paul, Minnesota, on January 18, according to multiple sources including Lemon's attorney and Attorney General Pam Bondi. The arrest was made by federal agents, with the FBI and Homeland Security Investigations involved, sources told CBS News.
The arrest stems from an incident at Cities Church in St. Paul where anti-immigration protesters interrupted a service. According to ABC News, the protesters were demonstrating against one of the pastors who they claimed was the acting field director of the St. Paul ICE field office. Protesters chanted "ICE out" and "Justice for Renee Good" during the disruption.
Abbe Lowell, Lemon's lawyer, confirmed that Lemon was taken into custody Thursday night in Los Angeles, where he was covering this weekend's Grammy Awards. Lowell stated, "Don has been a journalist for 30 years, and his constitutionally protected work in Minneapolis was no different than what he has always done."
A source familiar with the matter told CBS News that a grand jury was empaneled Thursday.
Lemon was taken into custody nearly two weeks after the initial protest. Attorney General Bondi confirmed the arrest via social media, according to ABC News.
