Former CNN host Don Lemon was arrested in Los Angeles on Thursday night following an anti-Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) protest he attended at a Minnesota church earlier in January, according to his lawyer Abbe Lowell. Lemon, now working as an independent journalist, faces charges related to disrupting a service at Cities Church in St Paul on January 18, BBC World reported.
Lemon was taken into custody while covering the Grammy Awards, Lowell stated. "Don will fight these charges vigorously and thoroughly in court," he added. Lemon, 59, is scheduled to appear in federal court in Los Angeles on Friday, BBC World reported. The charges stem from an incident where Lemon and a group of protesters entered the Cities Church, alleging that one of the pastors was an ICE official, according to BBC World.
In other news, the United States narrowly avoided a government shutdown as lawmakers remained deadlocked over funding.
