Former CNN Anchor Don Lemon Arrested Following Protest
Former CNN anchor Don Lemon was arrested in Los Angeles on Friday, according to his attorney and multiple sources with direct knowledge, CBS News reported. The arrest stemmed from Lemon's involvement in an anti-ICE protest that disrupted a church service in Minnesota nearly two weeks prior.
A source familiar with the matter told CBS News that a grand jury was empaneled on Thursday. The FBI and Homeland Security Investigations, a law enforcement agency within the Department of Homeland Security, were involved in the arrest, sources said.
Lemon appeared in federal court in Los Angeles on Friday afternoon. He was released on his own recognizance without posting bond. The judge stated that Lemon did not have to report to probation or pretrial services for supervision. He is required to obtain court permission for international travel. Lemon did not enter a plea during the court appearance.
This arrest occurred amidst other significant news events. The Justice Department released additional documents from the Jeffrey Epstein files, totaling approximately 3 million documents and photos, CBS News reported. The latest batch was uploaded to the DOJ repository as "Data Set 9." The released materials included photos, videos, court records, FBI and DOJ documents, news clippings, and emails. Some files contained information about prominent figures, including former Presidents Donald Trump and Bill Clinton, who have not been tied to any wrongdoing. The Epstein Files Transparency Act mandated the DOJ to produce its files related to Jeffrey Epstein and Ghislaine Maxwell.
In other news, Venezuelan opposition leader María Corina Machado asserted her intention to become president of Venezuela. "I will be president when the time comes," she told "Face the Nation" moderator Margaret Brennan, CBS News reported. "But it doesn't matter. That should be decided in elections by the Venezuelan people." Machado was banned from running against Nicolás Maduro in Venezuela's 2024 elections.
Meanwhile, President Donald Trump announced his pick of Kevin Warsh as the new Federal Reserve chairman, ABC News reported. In a post on Truth Social, Trump said he has "known Kevin for a long period of time, and have no doubt that he will go down as one of the GREAT Fed Chairmen, maybe the best." Warsh previously served on the Fed's board of governors from 2006 to 2011 and was a top adviser to then-Fed chairman Ben Bernanke during the 2008 financial crisis.

He stated that while freedom of expression is a strength of the nation, healthcare providers have a responsibility to protect the health of their patients, setting aside personal beliefs.
