Federal Judge Orders Release of Father and Son from Immigration Detention
A federal judge in Texas ordered the release of a 5-year-old boy and his father, asylum seekers who were arrested last week in Minnesota, according to ABC News. U.S. District Judge Fred Biery ordered Liam Conejo Ramos and his father, Adrian Conejo Arias, to be released from the immigration detention center at Dilley "as soon as practicable" but no later than Feb. 3, ABC News reported. "Any possible or anticipated removal or transfer of Petitioners under this present detention is prohibited," the judge wrote in his order, according to ABC News.
In other news, a criminal illegal immigrant was detained Saturday after allegedly ramming his car into a U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) vehicle in Minnesota, according to Fox News. Tranquilino Sixto-Anorve, an illegal immigrant from Mexico, was arrested after allegedly striking an ICE vehicle and a civilian car Saturday morning in St. Paul, officials said, Fox News reported. According to ICE, Sixto-Anorve has multiple DUI convictions and was being targeted for arrest because his criminal history indicated he was a "public safety threat," Fox News reported. Separately, documents released by the Department of Justice on Friday revealed that Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick planned a visit to the late sex offender Jeffrey Epsteins private island in 2012, according to ABC News.
