Virginia Woman Strangled After Ending Relationship, Investigation Reveals
A Virginia woman, Katlyn Lyon Montgomery, was found to have been strangled in her apartment on October 7, 2022, after her roommate called 911, according to CBS News. Initial suspicions pointed to a drug overdose, but investigators soon discovered that Montgomery had been murdered.
Montgomery's mother, Crystal Sale, recalled arriving at the hospital and watching medical staff perform CPR on her daughter. "I walk into the hospital saw my daughter there And I watched them do CPR and I'll never forget that," Sale told CBS News.
The investigation into Montgomery's death is the focus of an episode of "48 Hours" on CBS. The program, titled "The Sneak Attack on Katlyn Lyon," aired Saturday, Jan. 31, and is streaming on Paramount.
According to CBS News, Montgomery's daughter, Milani, alerted her roommate, Jacob Piercy, that something was wrong with her mother. Medical staff at the hospital noticed injuries on Montgomery's head and neck, leading to the discovery that she had been strangled.
Sherry Cox, Montgomery's sister, was taking care of Milani while periodically checking in on Katlyn in the hospital. "I knew it was bad," Cox told CBS News. Another sister, Tina Hopkins, said that Cox told her "something was wrong with Katlyn but they didn't know."
The "48 Hours" episode explores the circumstances surrounding Montgomery's death and the investigation that followed.
