5-Year-Old Liam Conejo Ramos and Father Released from ICE Custody After Judge's Order
Five-year-old Liam Conejo Ramos and his father, Adrian Conejo Arias, were released from Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) custody on Sunday, following a court order mandating their release, according to CBS News. U.S. District Judge Fred Biery directed government officials on Saturday to release the pair "as soon as practicable."
Liam and his father, asylum seekers who were detained by federal agents in Minneapolis last week, were held at the Dilley ICE detention center in Texas, a facility designed to house immigrant families with underage children, CBS News reported. Representative Joaquin Castro, a Democrat from Texas, escorted them back to Minneapolis, posting about it on social media Sunday.
"I'm happy to finally be going home," Conejo Arias told ABC News' John Quiñones as the pair boarded their flight in San Antonio back to Minneapolis. ABC News also obtained exclusive videos showing Conejo Arias carrying his son while boarding the plane.
Deputy Attorney General Todd Blanche addressed the release of Liam Conejo Ramos during an interview on ABC News' "This Week." The interview was part of a broader discussion regarding the Justice Department's release of files related to Jeffrey Epstein.
