Death Toll Rises to 41 in Swiss Bar Fire

The death toll from a New Year's Eve fire at a bar in the Swiss alpine resort of Crans-Montana has risen to 41, following the death of an 18-year-old Swiss national, according to the Associated Press. The victim, who had been hospitalized in Zurich since the incident, died on Saturday, a month after the blaze.

The fire broke out in the early hours of January 1st at "Le Constellation" bar, a crowded establishment in Crans-Montana, Switzerland, during New Year's celebrations, Euronews reported. Initial reports indicated 40 deaths, with over 100 injured. Many of the victims were young, including teenagers as young as 14 years old.

Prosecutors believe the fire was likely caused by sparklers on champagne bottles igniting soundproof foam on the ceiling of the basement bar, Euronews stated. The blaze resulted in 116 injuries, many of which were severe burns. Victims included Swiss and French nationals.

The Associated Press reported that flower tributes have been placed at the entrance of "Le Constellation" bar and lounge. Swiss investigators are continuing to investigate the cause of the fire.
