Closer to home, in Lawrenceville, Georgia, a police officer was killed and another critically wounded in a shooting at a hotel, according to the Associated Press. Gwinnett County police reported that the incident occurred early Sunday after officers responded to a call reporting fraud at a hotel near Stone Mountain, about 25 miles northeast of Atlanta. Upon arrival, the officers encountered a suspect who opened fire, striking both officers. The officers returned fire, wounding the suspect. The investigation is ongoing.
