Clintons Agree to Testify in Epstein Investigation as New Files Reveal Tech Figures' Ties
Former President Bill Clinton and former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton agreed to testify before the House Oversight Committee regarding convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein, according to an attorney for the Clintons. The agreement came ahead of a potential contempt of Congress vote, after months of political contention, according to Euronews.
Republican Congressman James Comer, who leads the House Oversight Committee, had been pressing for their testimony, Euronews reported. The Clintons' agreement to testify came as newly released documents continued to shed light on Epstein's extensive network, particularly within the tech world.
Wired reported that Peter Thiel, the billionaire venture capitalist and co-founder of PayPal and Palantir, appeared over 2,200 times in the latest batch of files released by the Department of Justice. These records demonstrated how Epstein cultivated relationships with wealthy and influential figures in Silicon Valley, with some, including Thiel, continuing to interact with Epstein even after his 2008 guilty plea for solicitation of prostitution and procurement of minors, according to Wired. The files showed that Thiel arranged to meet with Epstein several times between 2014 and 2017.
The Verge reported that revelations also surfaced regarding Elon Musk, specifically that he sought an invitation to Epstein's island. Experts suggested that this could add risk to Musk's plans to merge SpaceX with xAI and take the combined company public.
The Epstein files have also implicated other figures, revealing details such as Thiel's elaborate dietary restrictions, according to Wired. The ongoing release of information continued to expose the extent of Epstein's network and the connections he maintained with prominent individuals across various sectors.
