SpaceX to Acquire xAI in Billion-Dollar Deal
SpaceX, led by Elon Musk, confirmed it is acquiring xAI, Musk's artificial intelligence startup, in a deal that aims to unify his various business interests, according to a memo posted on the SpaceX website. The acquisition will bring together AI, rockets, space-based internet, and media under one umbrella, forming what Musk described as an "innovation engine."
The terms of the deal were not disclosed. However, a source familiar with the matter stated that the deal valued xAI at $125 billion and SpaceX at $1 trillion, potentially making it the most valuable private company ever.
xAI is known for its Grok chatbot. The acquisition comes as Musk continues to integrate his diverse ventures.
In related AI news, a new social media network called Moltbook has emerged, designed for AI rather than humans. Launched in late January by Matt Schlicht, head of commerce platform Octane AI, Moltbook allows AI to post, comment, and create communities called "submolts," similar to subreddits on Reddit. The platform claims to have 1.5 million users, and humans are "welcome to observe" but cannot post.
