Air India Grounds Boeing 787 After Fuel Switch Concern
Air India grounded a Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner jet after a pilot reported a potential defect in the aircraft's fuel control switch, the airline announced Monday. The airline stated it had notified India's aviation regulator about the issue and was prioritizing the inspection of the pilot's concerns, according to a statement.
The grounding occurred amidst an ongoing investigation into a plane crash last June involving an Air India aircraft of the same model. A Boeing spokesperson confirmed they were in contact with Air India and supporting their review of the matter in response to an email.
China Bans Hidden Car Door Handles
China banned hidden car door handles on electric vehicles (EVs) due to safety concerns, becoming the first country to prohibit the design popularized by Tesla. The new regulations, reported by state media, mandate that cars must have a mechanical release both inside and outside the doors to be sold.
The decision followed increased scrutiny of EVs by safety watchdogs globally, particularly after several incidents, including two fatal crashes in China involving Xiaomi EVs where power failures allegedly prevented door openings. The new rules are scheduled to take effect on January 1, 2027.
In other news, SpaceX confirmed it is acquiring xAI, Elon Musk's artificial intelligence (AI) start-up. The merger aims to create an "innovation engine" combining AI, rockets, space-based internet, and media under one roof, according to a memo from Musk posted on the SpaceX website.
While the terms of the deal were not disclosed, a source familiar with the matter said it valued xAI at $125 billion and SpaceX at $1 trillion, potentially making it the most valuable private company ever.
