Brazilian Influencer Arrested by ICE After Supporting US Immigration Crackdown
A right-wing Brazilian influencer, Júnior Pena, was arrested by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents in New Jersey, according to The Guardian. Pena, whose full name is Eustáquio da Silva Pena Júnior, had reportedly lived in the U.S. since 2009 and recently declared his support for former President Donald Trump in a video message to his hundreds of thousands of social media followers.
Pena had falsely claimed that the migrants being rounded up, including Brazilians, were all criminals, according to The Guardian.

According to Al Jazeera, Director General Sheikh Nasser bin Faisal bin Khalifa Al Thani stated that journalism has acquired a renewed importance at a time when technology, guided by algorithmic systems, has fueled new forms of polarization. He added that the Doha-based Network aims to review its role and purpose in the digital age. "Algorithmic systems, attention-based economic models and instant interaction have fuelled new forms of polarisation, and deepened division instead of dialogue. They have built echo chambers where people live cut off from," Al Thani said, according to Al Jazeera.
Meanwhile, the United States' relationship with Kurdish forces in Syria has reportedly shifted. According to Al Jazeera, the U.S. delivered a "devastating message" to Syria's Kurds last month during violent clashes between Kurdish forces and the Syrian army, signaling that their partnership with Washington had expired. "This was not merely a statement of shifting priorities – it was a clear signal that the US was siding with Damascus and abandoning the Kurds at their most vulnerable moment," Al Jazeera reported.
Al Jazeera also reported on the difficult conditions faced by displaced people in a camp in Sudan, where funding cuts are exacerbating the challenges for new residents.
