Disney Appoints Josh D'Amaro as New Chief Executive
Disney has named Josh D'Amaro, currently head of its amusement park division, as its new chief executive, effective March 18, according to BBC Business. D'Amaro, a 28-year veteran of the company, will succeed current CEO Bob Iger, ending a period of succession uncertainty for the entertainment giant.
The decision to appoint D'Amaro reflects Disney's focus on its most reliable profit center, as the company navigates the evolving landscape of streaming services, BBC Business reported. Iger had led Disney for approximately two decades, with a brief interruption in 2022 when his successor was ousted, and he was asked to return.
In other business news, Netflix faced scrutiny from US senators regarding its proposed $82 billion takeover of Warner Bros Discovery. During a Senate antitrust subcommittee hearing on Tuesday, lawmakers from both Democratic and Republican parties voiced concerns about potential reduced competition, price increases, and the future of cinemas should the merger proceed, according to BBC Business and BBC Technology. Ted Sarandos, chief executive officer of Netflix, and Bruce Campbell, chief revenue and strategy officer at Warner Bros Discovery, were sworn in during the hearing.
