Borderlands 4 Development for Nintendo Switch 2 Paused
Take-Two Interactive has paused development of "Borderlands 4" for the Nintendo Switch 2, despite its initial announcement and planned October 2025 release, according to a statement given to Variety by Take-Two spokesperson Alan Lewis on February 3, 2026. The decision was made to prioritize post-launch content and game improvements for other platforms.
"We made the difficult decision to pause development on that SKU," Lewis said in the statement published by Variety. "Our focus continues to be delivering quality post-launch content for players on the ongoing improvements."
While "Borderlands 4" development for the Switch 2 is on hold, Take-Two reaffirmed its commitment to the platform with upcoming titles like "PGA Tour 2K25" and "WWE 2K26." The company also confirmed that "Grand Theft Auto VI" is still slated for a November 2026 release.
Jay Peters, a senior reporter at The Verge, noted that the game had already been delayed from its original October 2025 release date. The Verge reported the pause in development on February 3, 2026.
The news comes amidst other developments in the entertainment and political landscape. Apple TV released a full trailer for the second season of "Monarch: Legacy of Monsters," part of Legendary Entertainment's MonsterVerse. The trailer features a gigantic tentacled undersea being dubbed Titan X, which Kong and Godzilla must stop.
In other news, President Donald Trump signed a funding package to reopen much of the federal government on Tuesday afternoon, ending a four-day partial shutdown. The measure gives lawmakers until next Friday to negotiate new funding for the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) and potentially new restrictions after the fatal shooting of two civilians by federal immigration agents last month in Minneapolis, according to Time.
Additionally, Crunchyroll is expanding its services in Thailand with a Thai-language user interface and an expanded library of localized anime content. According to Variety, the anime platform is now making more than 500 titles available to Thai subscribers.
